The film festival awards ceremony, which was a lot like the oscars, was recently held at school. This was a very glitzy event. There was a red carpet, where those who made the films (mostly Senior 2) would parade down it, and have their photographs taken. It’s a little like prom, I guess, insofar as the students all dress up in smart clothes.
We were told that there would be a special award for us. We weren’t sure what it was. But we went and were invited onto the stage. We (and when I say ‘we’, I mean me, my colleague and my manager) were asked to say a few words, and handed a certificate and an award. This wasn’t just for me, it was for the team, but it was a lovely gesture all the same.
The organisers had asked us to dance but because there were only three of us there, we declined. Instead, they showed a clip of the dancing video from the end of our film. It was only my class who were dancing, and my dancing in particular. Everyone laughed as the clip was frozen and then they all shouted my name. On stage, I thanked a few people, although it wasn’t the best speech I’ve ever given it. Still, as I’m (probably) never going to win an oscar, it was a really nice gesture to be there and receive the award!
