The Summer Palace

I’m not the best photographer in the world, so apologies for the quality of these pictures (also the sun shone on the screen so not all of them are that clear…). I struck out this morning, on the metro (which cost about 30p one way), to the Summer Palace, the summer retreat of the emperors. It was partially destroyed by the British and French during the Opium Wars, and has been rebuilt several times. If these pictures show anything it’s that I should go back and take better ones.

Still more…

You get the idea.

I think this was part of the Garden of Harmonious Pleasures.
IMGP0791
Some trees….
IMGP0794
A helpful note in the toilet above the urinals. Useful for life in general too, I think.
IMGP0797
A very bright picture of the main Palace buildings.

Bridge over the lake.
IMGP0824
No. 70 made out of flowers. Wasn’t sure what this was for, but maybe for end of the war.
IMGP0825
Kunming Lake.
IMGP0826
And again.
IMGP0827
This sign forbids romping, whatever that is….
IMGP0828
More of the lake.
IMGP0830
And some more.
IMGP0829
Boathouses on the lake.
IMGP0832
View across lake in haze/smog of tower in Beijing (I don’t know what this is called).
